ISIL or ISIS

It is just that question that illustrates the divide in America but whether you call it ISIL or ISIS is not the real question.  The real question is; have we already or will we wait too long to save millions of lives?

Yes, Congress and the American people are divided on what to do.  Some advocate intervention in the fight against ISIL (or ISIS) and some want us to stay out of it completely.  I am here to advocate NOT repeating history!

The United States stayed out of Europe in the late 1930s until hundreds of thousands died.  We waited until much of Eastern Europe and Europe was in the hands of a soulless monster.  We waited until thousands of our own troops were killed in a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor.  We waited until it was almost too late to save ourselves.   By waiting, we lost more solders stopping the evil than all just wars we have been in since.  (I do not include the corporate war called Vietnam.)

Let there be no mistake.  I am not a war monger.  I do not advocate blind aggression.  I do advocate halting the inhuman treatment of anyone before it gets to our shores.  ISIL is not an ideology.  It is a soulless criminal monster who has seduced followers into believing the slaughter of innocents is the path to salvation.  Sound familiar?  (i.e., Adolf Hitler)

I urge everyone to move away from the dove and stop the aggression we face before it is too late to save the millions of lives that are at risk.  Stop the aggression before there is another 9/11.  Terrorism is real.  It is here and terrorists are hoping we tire of war.  That is the only way they can win.

One from the past that is still applicable

Here is a post to another site that I wrote a year ago that is still applicable today.  How little things have changed.  Enjoy!

SUMMER TO FALL

As we glide into fall (That’s what I said; fall!) we have to lament over another wasted summer in Washington.  Republicans continue to do nothing to improve the lives of the middle class and insist that those who have made fortunes on their backs should earn even more money.

Every effort put forward by those congressmen and women who support the middle American family is thwarted by anarchists, war mongers and the greedy politicians vying for the support of the top 1% while ignoring the needs of the 99%.

Tea Party Republicans are ignoring the call of the better part of the Republican Party and refusing to do the business of the people by wasting the last few days of the summer session to vote for the 40th time to repeal the Affordable Care Act leaving the discussion of the budget for the next fiscal year to the fall session to begin in September.

Tea Party Republicans plan to refuse to pass a budget (Something they accused Senate Democrats of doing.) unless it includes a mandate to defund  the Affordable Care Act.

For decade after decade, a law that needs repair is revisited with amendments to fix problems without throwing out the entire law.  I will be the first to admit that the Affordable Care Act may need some adjustment but Tea Partiers do not want adjustments.  They just want those who do not get health insurance from their employer or are too poor for quality care to be abandoned completely to die in solitude.

Tea Partiers do not want anyone to have anything except the most fortunate of all of us.  No Medicaid, no food stamps, no free school lunches, no unemployment insurance, no infrastructure improvements, no college education.  In fact, they want to put the poor in their place.  In servitude to the top.  Tea Partiers are not out to improve America!  They are out to destroy it!

A little over the top?  I don’t think so.  In fact, I think it is about a wake up call to all my Republican friends.  I encourage all my Republican friends to go to the polls next year and elect those among Republicans who are more interested in improving America than pleasing the top 1% and doing the work of the people while in office instead of wasting money on themselves because greed is what is destroying America.

Republicans claim to the party of Christians but manage to ignore the word of God day after day in their actions in Congress.  You are your brothers keeper.  Act and vote like it!

American Politics

The American form of government is probably the fairest in the world today.  There are some underlying issues, however, that should be looked at with a certain amount of skepticism as far as just how fair it is.

It is very difficult to be sure that corruption does not taint the system and corruption is driven by greed.  Unfortunately, our politicians, for the most part, are elected through more and more money rather than good intentions and deeds.  The more financial backing you can acquire, the more likely you are to become powerful and be elected.  This makes our government more about money than the well being of our citizens.  The one who spends the most, reaps the most benefit from legislation.

The Constitution prevents this, you say?  You betcha!  And if you honestly believe that, I got a bridge to sell!

The Constitution looks nothing like it was meant to and the parts that do are bastardized in meaning and intent so much that it no longer should be relevant.  We live in a time when freedom of speech no longer means speaking up about government and injustice.  It now means that you and I can slander and berate each other with impunity whether we are honest or not.  The Supreme Court no longer interprets the Constitution but bends it to fit whatever idealism is in vogue at the time.

So, what are we to do?  That is a difficult question and one that will take some time to answer.  The first thing we must do is pay attention.  Pay attention to elections.  Pay attention to who we elect.  Don’t necessarily elect the person who spends the most but rather the one who you think will represent the truth.  The one who will represent the good of the people and not the good of the person who gives them the most money regardless of who it hurts.  Remember, that person (or corporation) spending that money will expect something in return if their candidate is elected so know who supports the person you vote for!

Most of all, be skeptical!  Politicians lie.  They will tell you anything they think you want to hear just to get elected and then (many, not all) will change course to satisfy their biggest donors.  The biggest mistake we make is electing our officials on a single issue without asking what stands they take on other important things.  One issue does not fairly manage a country!

Your thoughts are welcome.

As you read my comments, news and opinions, I don't want you to take what I have to say personally or as the only way to think, vote or view our world.  My thoughts are only my thoughts and are designed to invoke thought and consideration for you.  Our nation was built on the ideas of many people and designed to take into account a varied cultural experience to accommodate many citizens of the world into one nation of understanding and tolerance.

If we fail to follow through with the visions of our founders, this great experiment in democracy is a great failure.  If we begin to display intolerance for other cultures and ideas, this experiment in democracy is a failure.  If we fail to follow through with promise of our founders to welcome all comers to our shores, this experiment in democracy is a failure.

The authors of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Founders of this nation did not do this with only themselves in mind and if we only take ourselves into consideration now..........THIS EXPERIMENT IN DEMOCRACY CALLED THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IS A FAILURE!!!!!
