Labels. Everybody wants to put a label on the other guys political beliefs but what if none of the above exactly fit? So who are we? What are we? The answer to that can be complex or quite simple.
If you are more liberal than the average Democrat or more conservative that the average Republican, can or should you be lumped in with either party? Maybe but I say no. You should be Independent even if your leanings are to either one. It is not fair that any election entity require you to declare allegiance to either party or no one. States like Florida require you to declare your party in order to vote in a primary which, in my opinion, is extremely unfair. ! What if the candidate you would like to see run for president or congressional seat in your district is in one of the parties and you are registered in the other or neither. You would not be able to vote for your preference in order to get that candidate on the ballot locking you out of the system. In the same vein, if you were a registered Republican and the person you wanted to see run was on the Democrat ballot (not likely but possible) you are in the same boat as the Independent voter.
Admittedly, I am a Florida transplant. My former state was Michigan. In Michigan, everyone receives the same primary ballot. One side is Democrat and one side is Republican with a section for other Independent candidates. You can vote either Dem or Rep but cannot split between them. In other words, you vote one party for the entire ballot. This is a true SECRET ballot because only you know your preference. In addition, you can vote for the candidate of your choice no matter what party they claim to represent.
It is my belief that requiring you to declare your party affiliation prior to any election is unconstitutional and Florida's system is, therefore, not in the best interest of a free government.
What do you think?
Vote smart! Vote free! Vote Independent!

Are we waiting too long again?
Unfortunately, I think the answer to that is a very resounding "YES". During 'The big war' (WWII) we fought a just war to end the horrible treatment of Adolf Hitlers victims. We waited until it was nearly too late and now we are doing it again. (Go here for the story: http://news.yahoo.com/exhibition-of-syria-torture-photos-shows--depravity--of-assad-regime-220711714.html )
Even though Assad is only carrying out horrible crimes against his own people, they are worthy of the worlds attention and protection from a war criminal no less despicable. We said at the time of Hitler, "Never again!" Just because generations have passed does not mean we are free from our promise!
